Plot Summary:

     Yu’er and Hai Lanzhu are half-sisters, sharing the same father but different mothers; they hunt together on the grasslands. Shepherding sheep, she led a carefree life. At the Sheep‑Herders’ Gathering, each of them met the man she cherished: Hong Taiji vowed to help Yu’er fulfill a wish; Zhuo Lin set out on a distant campaign, and Hai Lanzhu waited in agonizing hope—only to learn, to her heartbreak, that he had fallen in battle. Yu’er risked her life to save Hai Lanzhu, who was being sacrificed as part of a funeral rite, and Hong Taiji, moved deeply by her wisdom and by Hai Lanzhu’s unwavering love, was profoundly touched. In a turbulent age when war clouds loomed, the two sisters endured the rise and fall of their tribe, the hardships of daily life, the setbacks of love, and the trials of family bonds—yet in the end, they trusted and supported one another. Yu’er aided Hong Taiji in navigating crises and persuaded Dorgon to set aside his prejudices, urging him to devote himself wholeheartedly to the nation’s peace and unity. After Fulin ascended the throne, he sought to realize his vision of “unity between Manchu and Han, sharing a time of lasting peace”; yet his path in love was fraught with obstacles, and after suffering a bitter blow, he even contemplated taking the vows of a monk. Through countless vicissitudes, he ultimately died young. Yu’er, her hair turned white while her son still lived, bore both physical and emotional pain, quietly raising her grandson Xuan Ye. Steadfast in the face of every hardship, she eventually saw him grow into a wise and enlightened ruler, ushering in the glorious Kangxi Era.
