Plot Summary:

     In 1920, the young Mao Zedong established a communist group in Changsha and worked to develop the Party’s grassroots organizations. A few years later, he established the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base Area, led the Red Army in repelling the Kuomintang’s encirclement and suppression campaigns, and, after the Long March, fought across northern Shaanxi. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Mao Zedong directed the anti-Japanese base areas behind enemy lines, successfully resisting the Japanese army’s large-scale sweeps and ultimately liberating all of China to found the People’s Republic of China. From the very outset of the new nation, Chairman Mao led the Chinese people in resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea, completing the socialist transformation, presiding over the Eighth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and guiding the entire nation through its most trying times. In the 1960s and 1970s, China achieved successful tests of its “two bombs and one satellite,” and the cause of modernization began to glimpse a bright future. Under the leadership of the central collective with Mao Zedong at its core, China simultaneously accelerated domestic development and pursued diplomatic breakthroughs, regaining its seat at the United Nations and establishing diplomatic relations with the United States. In 1976, Mao Zedong, who had devoted his life to China’s liberation and construction, passed away forever; yet the new China he had built shone forth like the rising sun, forging ahead with vigor.
