Plot Summary:

During the reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Ming dynasty, eunuchs held unchecked power and persecuted loyal officials. The martial‑arts hero Zhao Huai’an, while rescuing these righteous men, drew the wrath of Wan Yulou, head of the Eastern Depot, and Yu Huatian, chief overseer of the Western Depot. Pursued relentlessly, Zhao and his companions sought refuge once more at the Longmen Inn. Within its walls—once reduced to ashes by a great fire years earlier—Zhao recognized the new proprietor, Hu Zhongyu. Just as Yu Huatian led the Western Depot’s forces in hot pursuit, the former innkeeper, Jinxiangyu, appeared to come to their aid. She urged Zhao to leave the world’s turmoil behind, but he could not bear to part from Hu Zhongyu. In truth, Yu Huatian, who shared the same mother as Hu Zhongyu, had been secretly spirited out of the palace during court intrigues; he was raised disguised as a boy. Upon learning his true origins, Yu Huatian, driven by ambition, resolved to remove all obstacles and seize the throne, even compelling Emperor Xianzong to issue an edict transferring the succession. In a fierce battle, Emperor Xianzong slew Yu Huatian, rooting out treachery and restoring peace to the realm. Outside the city gates, Zhao Huai’an and Jinxiangyu rode off together on horseback, withdrawing into seclusion to live out their days in the martial world.
