Plot Summary:

     The series is set in 1934, The main forces of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army undertook a major strategic relocation. To cover the retreat of the main force, draw the enemy’s attention, and help ensure the success of the Long March, a special committee of the CPC for southern Sichuan was established by order, while dozens of regimental and divisional cadres and more than 400 soldiers were dispatched to form the Southern Sichuan Guerrilla Column, which remained in the border region of Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou to continue fighting. Within this unit emerged a large number of heroic sons and daughters—exemplified by Commander Xu Boxuan and Captain Lei Yuan—who combined wisdom with courage and showed no fear of sacrifice. Employing various designations, they engaged in fierce clashes with Kuomintang troops, local bandits, and militia, launching assaults on county seats, mounting counter‑encirclements, seizing divisional headquarters by cunning, and pursuing and eliminating traitors. In these struggles, they admirably fulfilled the arduous task of shielding the Red Army’s great strategic withdrawal and established a revolutionary base area behind enemy lines. Although, in the final decisive battle against Yang Jinwei’s Sichuan army, the First Guerrilla Column suffered heavy losses, the successful breakout led by Lei Yuan and others left behind a spark that would one day ignite a widespread revolution.
