Plot Summary :

　　Emperor Shunzhi, Fulin (Deng Chao) The young emperor, with the unwavering support of Regent Prince Dorgon and his mother, Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang (played by Pan Hong), ascended the throne. Yet throughout his youth, he remained shadowed by Dorgon’s autocratic rule; despite harboring lofty ambitions, he found himself constrained at every turn, unable to realize them. With his fate dictated by others, Fulin, after eight years on the throne, even saw his marriage arranged entirely by Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang—forced to take his cousin, Lady Borjigit (played by Hao Lei), as his empress. Her proud, jealous nature clashed repeatedly with the young emperor’s own temperament, and since Fulin had never cared for his cousin in the first place, he grew all the more distant from her. By a twist of fate, Fulin met the talented scholar Wuyunzhu (played by Huo Siyan) and gradually fell deeply in love with her. But his own rashness cost him the woman he cherished: he unwittingly handed Wuyunzhu over to his younger brother, Prince Guo, Bo Guo’er, as his wife. Later, under the pretext of exchanging literary verses, the young emperor summoned Wuyunzhu—now already a royal consort—again and again. As their bond deepened, the two could no longer escape the mire of a love that had long ensnared them. Defying widespread opposition and braving mounting pressure, Emperor Shunzhi ultimately took Wuyunzhu as his concubine. Yet this sweet new chapter did not last long. Already scandalous for violating conventional propriety, the emperor’s exclusive favoritism toward Wuyunzhu only fueled envy and resentment among those around him.
