Plot Summary :

　　In the first year of the Tang dynasty, the realm was prosperous. Yet a certain tale concerning… “Seven-Generations Grudged Lovers” ” His prophecy left the people in constant fear, unable to find peace day or night. Legend had it that the demonic path would seize the world through the power of a pair bound by seven lifetimes of hatred, turning the mortal realm into an endless hell. Yan Chixia, the Grand Master of the Xuanxin Sect (played by Yuen Wah), summoned all his lifelong mastery to face off against the Demon Lord Liudao (played by Law Ka-leung). In the end, Yan Chixia slew Liudao, who left behind a son named Qiye (played by Nie Yuan). Twenty years later, a humble scholar named Ning Caichen (played by Chen Xiaodong) arrived in the town of Nanguo, where sinister spirits ran rampant. Even before setting foot within its gates, Ning Caichen encountered one strange occurrence after another: first, he was nearly driven mad by the fox spirit Nie Xiaoqian (played by Barbie Hsu), who played tricks and feigned supernatural powers; then, he met a mysterious young woman named Ma Hongye (played by Charmaine Sheh) whose motives remained utterly enigmatic. Once inside the town, he found himself relentlessly pursued by a man claiming to be the foremost disciple of Yan Chixia—Zhuge Liuyun (played by Wu Jing). By fate’s hand and under some unseen design, a heartrending tale of love between man and ghost unfolded.

　　The period fantasy drama “A Chinese Ghost Story,” directed by the renowned ATV screenwriter Chan Shing-sam, is adapted from the classic tale “Nie Xiaoqian” in Pu Songling’s “Liaozhai Zhiyi.” This co-production spanning multiple regions features a star-studded cast from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong, reimagining a love story that endures even beyond death.
