Plot Summary :

　　Adapted from the classic Chinese literary work, "Liaozhai Zhiyi."  
　　During the Qin and Han dynasties, Captain Wang Sheng (Chen Kun) Shi) leads the Wang family army in fierce battles across the Western Regions and rescues a young woman, Xiao Wei (Zhou Xun). (Decoration). Before Wang Sheng arrived, Xiao Wei had just finished devouring a human heart to maintain her human form. The beautiful fox spirit of the Nine Heavens, Xiao Wei, fell madly in love with Wang Sheng at first sight. After following him home, she began to act as his younger sister. As time went on, Wang Sheng and Peirong (Zhao Wei)… The couple shares a deep bond, yet secretly yearn to supplant Peirong’s position and become Wang Sheng’s wife. The lizard spirit, Xiao Yi, who is deeply in love with Xiao Wei and has repeatedly slain others to claim their hearts for her, has confessed his feelings to her on several occasions—only to be driven away by her furious rebuke.  
　　In the city, more and more people are dying from their hearts being ripped out. Wang Sheng vows to uncover the truth, while Peirong has already begun to suspect that Xiao Wei is no ordinary person—and that she harbors feelings for her husband. Out of respect for Wang Sheng’s unwavering trust in Xiao Wei, she has no choice but to seek out Pang Yong, her old lover who once left in a huff years ago (played by Donnie Yen). (He) offers his assistance, while the demon-slayer Xia Bing, driven by destiny, also volunteers to vanquish the demons.
