In the fourteenth year of the Chenghua era of the Ming Dynasty, Tang Fan, a sixth‑rank investigating magistrate, and Sui Zhou, a chief sergeant of the Jinyiwei, joined forces to solve the long‑unsolved case of the murder of a nobleman’s son. Their joint efforts brought them sudden fame and forged a deep bond of friendship.
