Plot Summary:

In 1937, with Shanghai falling to Japanese occupation, Pu Jizhou, born into a distinguished diplomatic family, could not bear the arranged marriage to Yao Jiali. At her wedding, he boldly fled on the spot, eventually finding work at the Chinese Consulate in Vienna, Austria, where he serendipitously met his idol, the female violinist Helen, under the rain. In 1938, following Austria’s annexation by Germany, the Nazis launched a brutal campaign of persecution against Jews. Only those holding foreign visas could escape Austria; yet, wary of the Nazi regime, most nations refused to issue visas under various pretexts. Among them, however, the Chinese Consulate in Vienna kept its doors open to Jewish refugees. Upholding the instructions of the consul general and braving immense pressure and grave risks, Pu Jizhou, together with his colleagues, worked tirelessly to secure visas for Jewish refugees bound for Shanghai, China. Most notably, while single-handedly carrying out the top‑secret “Seven‑Person List” mission, he engaged in a battle of wits and courage with the German Nazis—led by Hans—skillfully maneuvering through their machinations. With the cooperation of Jewish resistance networks, he endured countless hardships, surmounted one peril after another, and managed to locate and rescue numerous eminent scientists, thereby shining a light on the profound humanity and moral excellence of the Chinese nation.
