Plot Summary:

In the early twentieth century, three members of General Wu’s air squadron—Jiang Cheng, Hua Tongrui, and Shangguan Yupo—who had failed in their mission and been captured by a Northeastern warlord, were rescued by General Wu’s Internal Security Bureau and brought back to Tianjin. The Bureau determined that one of the three had already defected and assigned Liu Li to investigate Shangguan Yupo. Liu Li subsequently placed him under surveillance, but Shangguan Yupo handled the situation with composure, step by step. Throughout the development of General Wu’s air force, Shangguan Yupo consistently distinguished himself. As Liu Li delved deeper into her investigation of Shangguan Yupo, she gradually fell in love with him. Shangguan Yupo, too, began to harbor feelings for her. Yet he had been in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, Mo Chun, a bond that left both of them caught in a painful dilemma. Over time, Shangguan Yupo came into contact with the Southern Revolutionary Party’s ideals and forged within himself a conviction against imperialism and feudalism. Meanwhile, the Internal Security Bureau shifted its focus to Jiang Cheng and Hua Tongrui; eventually, the traitor Jiang Cheng was exposed and brought to justice. By the end of 1926, as the Northern Expedition neared victory, General Wu’s Internal Security Bureau found itself under mounting pressure. Shangguan Yupo and Liu Lizhi embraced the Southern Revolutionary Party’s cause and set out on a path to overthrow foreign powers and dismantle the warlords.
